How it works

Step-by-step

Not sure where to start?

Book a first visit or call 07 823 1210, and we'll help you figure out what you actually need.

Cambridge Dental is a member of the Hamilton Emergency Dental Group. Outside our hours (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm) the group shares an after-hours phone line that operates on an annual roster. Call 027 492 3475 for after-hours emergencies.

Why this matters

Quick action saves teeth.

Most dental emergencies are treatable, and the outcome is usually better the sooner we see you. A knocked-out adult tooth has the best chance of being saved if we see you within 30 minutes of the accident or loss of tooth etc. A broken tooth that is left can lead to infection. An abscess that is left can become a serious infection.

If you are in pain, the most important thing is to call. We would rather hear from you, we can then advise on a time frame and see you when it in necessary to avoid long term complications

Frequently
Asked
Questions

What counts as a dental emergency?

A dental emergency is anything where waiting for a routine appointment would risk your health or your teeth. Severe pain, a knocked-out adult tooth, a broken tooth, a dental abscess, a lost filling or crown causing problems, swelling, and trauma to the mouth or jaw all count. If you are not sure, call us on 07 823 1210 and we will tell you.

Will ACC cover my emergency treatment?

ACC may cover dental treatment that is needed because of an accident, sports injury, or fall. There is usually a smaller patient portion that you need to pay, and this will always be estimated in writing and explained before treatment begins. Cambridge Dental can help you lodge an ACC claim.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

For an adult tooth: pick up the tooth by the crown (the white part), not the root. Rinse it carefully in milk or saliva (not water). If you can, place it back in the socket. If not, store it in milk and come straight to us. Time matters. Within 30 minutes gives the best chance of saving the tooth. Baby teeth are not re-implanted, but you should still call us to check the surrounding area.

Are you open after hours?

Cambridge Dental is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. For emergencies outside business hours, please call 027 492 3475.

Can I just walk in for an emergency appointment?

Always call first. We will tell you the next available slot and may give you advice over the phone for what to do until you arrive. Walking in without calling is risky because we may be in the middle of other treatments.

Where is Cambridge Dental located?

Cambridge Dental is at 9A Anzac Street, Cambridge 3434, in the Waikato region of New Zealand. We are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
