How it works

How restorative treatment
actually unfolds.

Step-by-step

Not sure where to start?

Book a first visit or call 07 823 1210, and we'll help you figure out what you actually need.

Why this matters

The best restorative work is
the kind you forget about.

A well-made crown, bridge, or filling should look like the tooth it is part of, feel like the tooth it is part of, and last for many years. The best restorative work is invisible because it just becomes part of your mouth. We design every restoration with that bar in mind.

We are also realistic. Restorative work is sometimes the right answer, and sometimes it is not. Where a tooth is too far gone, we will tell you. Where a simpler treatment would do, we will recommend the simpler option. Honest advice is the entire point of the consultation, to build trust and confidence in your team.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

How long does a dental crown last?

A well-constructed crown typically lasts 5 to 15 years. Lifespan depends on the material chosen, where the crown is in your mouth, and how you look after it (regular hygiene appointments, not biting hard objects, and treating any clenching or grinding).

Is having a crown or bridge fitted painful?

The procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic, so the work itself should not be painful. Some patients experience tenderness, sensitivity, or mild discomfort for a day or two afterwards, which usually settles. We will always check in with you during the appointment and adjust if anything is uncomfortable.

How long does the whole process take?

Most crowns require two appointments: one to prepare the tooth and take impressions or scans, and one to fit the final crown once it has been made by the lab. Bridges and more complex restorative cases can take longer.

What materials do you use for crowns?

Cambridge Dental works with several materials including porcelain, zirconia, and other modern options. Which is best for you depends on the location of the tooth, your bite, and how visible the crown will be. We will explain the options at your consultation.

Can I claim restorative work on insurance?

Some private dental insurance plans cover a portion of restorative work. Cover varies by insurer and plan. Some plans pay us directly, others will reimburse you after you have paid for treatment. We can provide a written, itemised invoice for your insurer either way.

Where is Cambridge Dental located?

Cambridge Dental is at 9A Anzac Street, Cambridge 3434, in the Waikato region of New Zealand. We are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
