Why visit a dental hygienist?
At Cambridge Dental, most of our patients visit one of our dental hygienists regularly every six months. This is because keeping gum disease and subsequent bone loss at bay requires
Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in the Western world. It is also sadly the most
undiagnosed and untreated dental disease. Almost every person we inform who has this
condition is completely unaware that anything is wrong. In it’s early stages there is no pain, no obvious bleeding and the teeth are not loose yet.
With good oral hygiene and regular visits this can be prevented.
Our dental hygienists are gum disease specialists

They also recommend and provide relevant oral health products that help keep gums and teeth healthy and prevent tooth decay.
Our dental hygienists care for children and adolescents
Ideally, we would like to see no one develop gum disease so we take particular care with our
sometimes unpleasant and costly treatment later in life. Our hygienists communicate well with young children and adolescents and very much enjoy this part of their job.
Prevention is the key to good oral health
Visiting a dental hygienist is a little like laying good foundations before building a house. For a dentist to be putting in fillings or placing caps or porcelain veneers in a mouth that has gum disease would be like building a house on sand. It will collapse and you could end up paying for costly dental care that could have been prevented with good oral hygiene practices.
This is why we recommend regular dental hygiene visits so your oral and dental health, as well as your general health, is strong.
